| Biographical Information |
![]() Michael Weeks is a freelance composer and graphic designer located in Astoria, Queens. Born in 1977 in Bremerton, Washington (across the bay from Seattle), Michael spent his childhood moving with his family all over the country, until finally settling down in Saratoga Springs in upstate New York. In 1995, he began school at Skidmore College to study Painting. After graduating from Skidmore College in 1999, Michael relocated to New York City to pursue work in production - working for Colgate-Palmolive for 5 years handling many aspects of Print Production management and Intranet development, two different animals entirely but both fit his need for continuous learning and constant challenges. ![]() He also continued to pursue music, after spending several years as a club and radio DJ he now looked to create sound. The next five years would see an explosion of output - to date 6 albums and 3 original scores have been completed, with many other works in progress. Delving into years of countless influences, as well as years of experience with different instruments, Michael set out to create distinct personalities in every one of his musical endeavors; from achingly beautiful ambient electronica, rigorous and energetic hardbeat dance music, classical orchestration, offbeat sound exploration with boutique and arcane instruments and effects, to evocative sound bed design for film work. Visual art didn't stop at college for Michael. While at school he focused on physical work - drawing, painting, printmaking - by the time he hit New York he had already established a strong skill set in Graphic Design and print production. While handling production primarily at Colgate, Michael found himself needed to handle design work as well, both for Colgate and for freelance clients. He took his style to the digital domain - finding ways to create the same atmosphere and contrast he sought to create in his paintings. Over the past five years Michael has developed a distinct ability with digital compositing for flat work - creating layered and intricate pieces which blend with text beautifully in print and web applications. Michael is currently working on several album projects, as well as performing live in and around the New York metro area. Please peruse the site and feel free to contact him with any questions! |
